The European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA) has awarded Barcelona Nautical Cluster the Cluster Excellence Initiative Bronze Label, which endorses the commitment, effort and interest of the Cluster in achieving management excellence. This label implies that the organisation will be evaluated by ESCA, identifying its potential as a cluster and making strategic recommendations for improvement that can lead to the higher silver and gold awards.
ESCA is an organisation conducting management analysis and recognition of European clusters and business groups and comprises experts from 27 countries. The organisation has created a methodology for assessing clusters comparatively to help develop tools that can lead to excellence. The methodology is based on benchmarking and analysing the processes, products and services of the cluster compared to other bodies in the same sector and activity.
More than 700 organisations have been evaluated since 2008 based on this procedure, which is accepted by the managers of such organisations and by European policy-makers. With this certification, Barcelona Nautical Cluster joins the list of fifty certified clusters in Spain and is the fourth in its category of Sports, Leisure and Tourism.
This recognition is part of the European Cluster Excellence Initiative (ECEI), launched by the European Union in 2009 under the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme. The aim is to improve and strengthen the level of excellence of clusters and to set standards worldwide.
